We offer a wide variety of programs with a focus on nature and the environment, including programs for families and for professionals.

Family Activity Sheets

These self guided activity sheets are designed for families to learn at their own pace.  Bring them along on your next trip to Duke Farms!


Duke Farms offers 18 miles of paved, gravel, wood-chipped and mown-grass trails and pathways through a variety of habitats.


Duke Farms has paved and gravel roads for biking. Don't have a bike? Check out our Bikeshare!


The Farm Barn Café offers their guests a light and fresh café experience in a unique atmosphere. Open Thursday - Tuesday from 8:30 am - 6:00 pm.

Orchid Range

The Orchid Range is home to a Subtropical Display and a Tropical Orchid House featuring some of the 1,500 orchids grown at Duke Farms.

Old Foundation

In 1903, J.B. Duke first announced plans to erect a formal mansion on the estate.Today, the remnants of this building project may be seen at the Old Foundation site.

Great Falls

The Great Falls flows between April 1 and November 1 at 4 times a day we are open at 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm. Pack a picnic and check it out!

Hay Barn

Following a fire in January 1915, Doris Duke repurposed the Hay Barn as an outdoor sculpture gallery.

Bird Watching

A total of 240 species of birds have been found on the property. Go to our Public Programs page to find upcoming birding programs.

Butterfly/Dragonfly Watching

The meadows and ponds at Duke Farms attract diverse species of butterflies and dragonflies


There are excellent opportunities for nature photography at Duke Farms. Please follow the guidelines from our photo policy page.


Duke Farms opened a Community Garden in 2011 to provide people with the opportunity to grow produce that is healthy for them in a way that is friendly to the environment. 

Assistance Tram

Assistance Tram service runs weekdays from 10 AM to 5 PM and on the weekends from 10 AM to 4 PM. The Assistance Tram does not run between November 1 and April 1. 


Artists are welcome to create their own works inspired by nature.


Enjoy winter outdoors by snowshoeing along our trails.


Cross-country Skiing

Cross-country skiers are welcome to enjoy their sport at Duke Farms.
