Wildlife Watching with Critter Cams

Our Natural Resources team set up Critter Cams in hidden locations of the property to observe wildlife in an accessible and respectful manner. This way, we can observe the wildlife at Duke Farms without disturbing them or encroaching on their home. Watch this Critter Cam video and come along as we ID these resident animals at Duke Farms.

Duke Farms is home to many animal species. Why? The property houses floodplains, rivers, forests, meadows, open water, and fields; all these landscapes make great habitat for various animals.

How does Critter Cam inspire learning? To get insight into the Critter Cam animals, consider these questions:

  • What animals are more active during the daytime? What about nighttime?
  • Check the timestamps in the bottom right-hand corner. What animal is up "the latest"?
  • Which animals do you see in groups? Which animals are solitary?
  • What role in the food chain does each animal play? What kind of food does each animal eat?
  • Sometimes you see an animal on-screen and then a different animal shortly afterward. Why do you think that is?
