Though the world is seemingly at a standstill, nature is still busy at work. The coming of spring brings birds back from their southern migration and has trees bursting with buds and flowers emerging from dormancy.

Seek by iNaturalist is an interactive field guide and uses image recognition to identify species from birds to ferns and everything
else in between. Simply open the camera within the app and it will quickly scan for organisms and identify them. You can also upload previous photos to be identified.

You will earn bronze, silver, and gold badges based on the number and types of species you identify. Challenge your kids (or yourself) to find salamanders hiding under rocks, worms digging in the soil, or birds perching in trees. Each species has an “About” section, more photos, and other information. Seek is a way to integrate technology and nature, keeping kids outdoors engaged and learning. There is a surprising amount of diversity in your own backyard, how many different species can you find?

Seek also partnered with Our Planet on Netflix to offer additional monthly challenges to complete. Watch an episode of Our Planet, then complete an observation mission based on the episode.
