Learn the fundamentals of science communication with an award-winning author! The workshop begins with a 20-minute presentation on how to effectively use written language to share scientific information with a general audience, then a follow up Q&A. The presentation is followed by a 45-minute writing activity, with additional time afterwards for sharing and critique.
Please come prepared with a notebook and writing utensil, or a laptop/tablet for the writing activity.
Chris Alice “Alie” Kratzer is an engineer, scientist, entrepreneur, illustrator, and author. She serves as the founder and Director of Owlfly LLC and manages its two divisions: Owlfly Engineering and Owlfly Publishing. Alie’s newest book is The Cicadas of North America, an unparalleled glimpse into the lives of some of the world’s most delightful insects. Her first book, The Social Wasps of North America, was released in 2022 and established Alie as one of the youngest published field guide authors in history.
Registration is required. Please let us know if you are no longer able to attend so your space can be offered to someone else. Cancellations received at least 48 hours in advance are eligible for a refund, if applicable. Programs at Duke Farms are RAIN or SHINE, but in the event of severe weather, classes may be canceled. Email notice will be given as early as possible via email and refunds will be issued in the case of cancellations.
